Building Strong Employer-Employee Relationships with Pam Walaski

With summer in full swing, safety professionals across the United States and beyond are gearing up for this ASSP’s Safety 2024 Conference and Expo, which will be held in Denver, Colorado on August 7-9. As always, DORN Companies will be in attendance, and we’re thrilled to have another chance to meet fellow EHS pros, learn about the latest in the world of safety, and share our growing toolkit of holistic, proactive safety solutions.

In advance of the conference, ASSP announced this spring that Pam Walaski would become the Society’s new president for the 2024-2025 term. Pam brings over 30 years of experience in occupational health and safety to the role, and having served as director-at-large for the Society from 2018 to 2021, she has already proven herself a capable and confident leader in the world of workplace safety and ergonomics. Pam is also the owner of RiverLush OSH Services and an adjunct faculty member at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, the University of Alabama, and the University of Maryland. In 2022, the ASSP awarded Pam the honor of Fellow, demonstrating her unique mix of experience and insight as a career-long advocate for EHS and innovative safety programming across industries. With a background in social work, Pam brings a people-first mentality to her work that continues to inform her approach to safety advocacy.

We were excited to have Pam join us for an episode of the DORN Injury Prevention Academy Podcast, hosted by our own Cheryl Roy.

In this episode, we covered:

  • How the workplace safety industry has evolved in recent years, moving from a reactive to a proactive strategy in the wake of the COVID pandemic
  • The role of leaders in the safety industry in advocating for proactive, effective worker safety policies as agencies like OSHA develop new regulations and best practices
  • Addressing bias in the safety industry and how people with non-traditional backgrounds such as social work, military, and vocational workers can make inroads into the EHS world
  • A preview of this year’s ASSP Safety Conference
