An annual study by the Workers Compensation Research Institute on opioid prescribing in workers’ compensation cases has shown that nearly half of the states included in the study have reduced the frequency and strength of pain medications given to injured workers. Some states achieved this by implementing stricter enforcements of prescription drug monitoring programs. The study also shows that Louisiana, New York, and Pennsylvania remain at the top of the list when it comes to the average amount of opioids prescribed.
