Some people move through the world leaving lasting imprints, not just through their expertise, but through the way they give, lead, and inspire. Kate DeMoss was one of those rare souls.
For nearly three decades, Kate dedicated herself to the study and art of movement, ergonomics, and holistic health. At DORN, she became much more than an Injury Prevention Specialist —she was the heartbeat of our clinical team. Kate’s mastery of the body’s language was matched only by her passion for people. She saw not just musculoskeletal disorders, but the whole person behind every posture and every story.
Her approach blended science, martial arts, wisdom, and warmth. She could analyze a workstation with the precision of an engineer (she was one in her early career), then demonstrate a movement with the grace of a sensei. She was relentless about quality, always raising the bar for what care and training could mean—yet she never forgot the laughter, the empathy, and the small encouragements that fuel a team.
Before DORN became the company it is today, Kate was here, lighting the way. Her love for holistic health, her enthusiasm, and her gift for teaching became a touchstone for everyone lucky enough to work beside her.
Kate led the way to our current and future vision.
- She was DORN’s first ergonomist.
- She created our ErgoAware 101 and 201 trainings that many client team members are trained on, giving them ergonomic eyes.
- Kate was our first formal trainer. She developed the training programs used by all new Providers when they join DORN. Kate was DORN’s first formal trainer.
- When COVID came and we needed a new way to reach people, Kate developed both our live virtual and on-demand solutions. Both are in use today.
- She was a social media darling with her “Where’s Kate” series, along with logging over 1 million air miles annually.
Colleagues remember Kate as a mentor, a coach, and a friend. She listened deeply. She made time for you. She believed that everyone, no matter their role, could benefit from the same care she brought to her clients. For me, as Owner and CEO, she was also confidant and conscience, ensuring what we were doing made sense in supporting the employees we are here to serve. There is a huge hole in my heart and a hole in the soul of the business with her passing, which will be hard to fill.
Kate’s influence radiates through the programs she built, the standards she set, and every life she touched. Her legacy is alive in DORN’s work and in all of us who continue the mission: to create workplaces and lives where people move freely and thrive PainFree.
