Expert Panel Offers insight and framework for creating a global culture of health and best practices

The International Corporate Health Leadership Council (ICHLC) recently published the second whitepaper in its series: "Creating a Culture of Health for a Global Organization – Framework and Practices". The whitepaper features an outline and examples of leading practices to assist organizations sending travelers to emerging markets to better support the health and well-being of their globally mobile workforces.

"This important paper educates global business leaders about the inherent value of fostering a culture of health as they realize workforce health and well-being are necessary for sustainable enterprise success," said Charles Yarborough, MD, Honorary Chair, ICHLC, and President, CYHealthAssociates, LLC.

The health and wellness of a workforce has been recognized as a contributing factor to the overall success of an organization. A global culture of health should be a part of any global organization's effort to create an environment where employees feel valued, experience purpose, have trust in leadership, and are consistently offered opportunities to learn and grow.

"The Global Culture of Health challenges all of us to see our personal health in the context of our being members of a greater world community," noted Jules Duval, MD, Senior Medical Officer, Health Services Department, Clinic Manager, World Bank. "As the next generation works, travels, and lives with a global mindset unlike any generation before them, they will start to see health and well-being as common values shared by all people and realized by all people working together."

Additional insight of the report includes:

  • The importance of people as a key part of a culture of health.
  • The commitment to a culture of health by organizations' leadership.
  • The physical and social environment of the workforce.
  • The ability to assess the impact of these programs as part of sustainability.

"I am deeply passionate and committed to improving the health and well-being of our employees globally. To be successful we must create an authentic culture of health at every level of the organization." Lori Zimmerman, MD, Medical Director, Citigroup Inc.

The whitepaper also defines key areas of learning: Leadership Engagement, Employee Engagement, Environment- Physical, and Social and Outcomes Assessment.

"Culture of Health Program elements are designed to promote a health conscious culture and provide an environment that will allow health and safety to be equally ingrained in the daily life of employees.  We are excited to watch the growing interest in this program," said Deena Buford MD, MPH, Medical Director – Global, Exxon Mobil Corporation.
